Moon often experimented in contacting ancestors in the spirit world during his early teen years, and his spiritual quest was likened to that of Buddha. The climax of Moon’s spiritual search was a vision that he reportedly received of Jesus Christ on April 17, 1936, at age sixteen.

Devastating to the credibility of Moon’s supposed vision is that every Unification writing gives the date as April 17, 1936, Easter Morning. A 1936 calendar proves beyond any shadow of the doubt that Moon’s vision could not have occurred on Easter morning, because April 17, 1936, was a Friday, not a Sunday. In his supposed vision, Moon was told to complete Jesus’ unfinished mission.

Moon struggled for nine years supposedly to discover what is termed the “divine principle.” This divine principle is considered authoritative scripture in the Unification Church and is by their account, superior to the Bible. As is true with all cults, the Unification Church members cannot understand the Bible as it is. It must be explained by the organization and God’s prophet for today.

Moon’s former teacher, Elder Baik Moon Kim, who founded a church called the Monastery of Israel, taught similar principles to Moon in 1946. Moon’s Divine Principle was not written until six years later, in 1952. It was also in 1946, while being taught by Elder Kim, that he changed his name to Sun Myung Moon. Although Moon goes by the title Reverend, there is no history of his ordination by any bona fide denomination in Korea or America. In fact, many of the earliest Unification writings from the 1960’s consistently call him Mr. Moon. It was not until his reemergence in America in the early 1970’s that he quite suddenly became known as “Reverend” Sun Myung Moon. The Unification Church ordains no ministers, so Reverend Moon is in a class by himself.

Shortly following the Second World War, Moon drifted from one “Pentecostal” group to another. Most of these groups had blended séances, spiritism, ancestral spirit guidance, and a host of occult practices with their untrained Pentecostal Christian faith. What one ends up with is spiritism practiced in the name of Christianity, something exercised by many cults and abhorred by all “genuine” Christians!

It was through these spiritistic endeavors that moon claimed to discover the “nine levels of the spirit world,” each of which he subjugated by questioning the spirits that he faced. His supposed proof of authenticity is that Jesus, Confucius, Mohammed, and Buddha all appeared and agreed with his conclusions. Finally, Moon faced off with Satan himself and questioned Satan about the fall of Adam and Eve until he found the real cause of the fall of man. He claims to have conquered Satan and accomplished what no other man before him has done, including Jesus.

According to Moon, the fall of Adam and Eve was due to Eve’s first sexual intercourse with Satan, and second her passing on sin through her sexual intercourse with Adam before he had matured to perfection. Like many other cult leaders before him, Moon has brought sexuality to center stage, cloaked in religiosity. Moon may have been way too preoccupied with the subject of sex during the formation of his church. There are several reports bearing examination concerning Moon’s marriages, bigamy, and promiscuous sexual affairs, that he called “blood cleansing,” with female members of his church.

This blood cleansing rite is an unusual act whereby a woman was to have sexual intercourse with Moon to “cleanse” her blood from Satan’s lineage. The “cleansed” woman could then cleanse her husband through sexual union with him. This ritual was based upon the Unification doctrine that Eve fell by having sexual intercourse with Satan; therefore, a woman having intercourse with Moon, who is “Lord of the Second Advent,” would be cleansed. Just as Eve passed Satan’s tainted blood lineage on to Adam, likewise the cleansed Unification member passes purification of blood onto her spouse. There is no evidence that this rite is practiced today.

Sun Myung Moon was married twice and then married his current wife, Hak Ja Han, in March of 1960 when he was 40 and she was 17. She has since born him 13 “sinless” children and is referred to as “mother” by Unification members. Their wedding is viewed as a fulfillment of the “marriage of the Lamb” mentioned in Revelation 21:9. To Unification members, this monumental event ushered in the “New Age,” or the “Cosmic Era.” Moon and his wife were the first True Parents and have the power to bless other marriages with pureness and “sinless” offspring. Incidentally, this is why the Unification Church conducts mass weddings with up to 300,000 couples at one time. These blessed couples supposedly are sinless families on earth.

In obedience to his vision from God to “declare the New Age and New Truth” Moon began to tour major US cities since 1972 for what he called his “Day of Hope” Crusades. Moon divided his 21 year campaign into three seven year segments beginning with his marriage in 1960. The year 1976 was a pivotal one for Moon’s third segment. He poured millions of dollars into two large rallies. One was to be at New York’s Yankee Stadium and the other at the Washington Monument. His success was dampened at the Yankee Stadium event when it rained relentlessly for three hours. With the Stadium less than half full, Moon went on with the show. Moon, who incessantly compares himself with Jesus, spiritualized the Yankee Stadium event, claiming that he and the church had endured their crucifixion, death, and resurrection.

Moon’s “work” was to be completed in 1981, but to his dismay, he found himself under the scrutiny of a House subcommittee and the IRS in the late 1970’s. The investigation ended up in charges, and Moon went to trial in 1983, later being convicted of tax evasion.

Moon spent 13 months of an 18 month sentence at a federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut. The remaining 5 months of his sentence was served at a halfway house.

The Unification Church spent 4.5 million dollars to clear Moon’s name with a mass-mailing campaign to 300,000 pastors in the US. The unsolicited mailing contained 3 video tapes, 2 books, and an introductory letter from Dr. Mose Durse, president of the Unification Church in America. They were claiming that Moon was set up and being discriminated against because of his nationality and religion. Moon’s campaign apparently worked well. Upon his release from prison on August 20, 1985, he was celebrated at a banquet by 1,700 clergy with Baptist evangelist Jerry Falwell as the main speaker, who unsuccessfully called upon President Reagan to pardon Moon.

The Unification Church today is not much larger than it was in the mid 1970’s. They still claim about 3 million members worldwide. They have over 900 worship centers in Korea and 55 in the US. The largest following Moon has is in Japan.

The two distinguishing characteristics of the Moonies from all other cults are their massive fund raising tactics and their mass weddings. Much has been written in magazines and newspapers about the deceptive tactics that they use in fund raising called “heavenly deception.” This is the practice of justified lying, which is permissible because it is done for a good cause. During one of Moon’s training sessions, a student asked, “What about white lies?” Moon answered, “If you tell a lie to make a person better, then it is not a sin.” He further added, “Even God tells lies very often; you can see this throughout history.” (Titus 1:2, “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.”)

In accordance with their practice of “heavenly deception,” Moonies have been found raising funds from wheelchairs while in perfectly good health. They have been seen carrying their wheelchairs back to their cars. Many times they give names of false charities to gain sympathy. Moon often gloats about how he rakes in huge profits from the unsuspecting public on flowers that cost him .80 cents and he sells for a $5.00 donation. At one point, Moon told his followers that he would train them to make 30 million dollars monthly so he could purchase the Empire State Building. In all, Moon receives annually approximately 100 million dollars from Japan, 35 million from the US, and 20 million from Europe in “charitable donations.”

The business holdings and spending power of the Unification Church are unparalleled for a group its size. They have at least 335 business’ worldwide, another 280 in the US. They produce weapons, soft drinks, ginseng products, computers, auto parts, heavy machinery, and clothing. They also own convenience stores, real estate, fishing fleets, newspapers, magazines and journals. One estimate is that the Unification Church controls 10 billion dollars worth of businesses.

Moon teaches that when Jesus came to earth, His mission was to save man physically and spiritually by getting married. The Jews, John the Baptist, and His disciples failed to form a family unit with Him and find Him a suitable bride. Realizing their failure, He chose to die on the cross and save mankind spiritually. Instead of saving man two ways, corresponding to the fall of man, Jesus saved man only spiritually or only halfway.

Therefore, it was necessary for another Messiah to come to finish Jesus’ incomplete work by finding a perfect bride, marrying and establishing a God centered family through which sinless children could be born. In this way sin would be eradicated from the world and man saved both spiritually and physically. Rev Moon and his wife are these supposed True Parents of mankind. All weddings that they bless are cleansed and sinless and hence sinless children are born. This is the reasoning behind their mass weddings.

The largest mass wedding was held by satellite television in 160 countries and conducted by Rev Moon himself. On August 6, 1995, 300,000 couples exchanged vows. Every couple spends the following 40 days in celibacy, and then consummates the marriage for 3 days, only to practice celibacy for 3 years!

Moon tries not to use the term Messiah when talking about himself, rather he uses the term “Second Advent” instead. Moon denies the Deity of Christ, the Virgin birth of Christ, the Holy Spirit as the third person of the trinity, and salvation by Grace through faith in the finished work of Christ on the Cross.

Moon said, “We must realize that through the crucifixion on the cross, God and Jesus lost everything. At that moment of crucifixion, nothing was there, nothing, no nation of Israel, no Jewish faith, no disciples, no salvation, and there was no beginning of Christianity. There was no redemption; there was no salvation; and there was no beginning of Christianity. So there on the cross, salvation was not given.”

Acts 4:12 says, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

AMEN, AMEN, AND AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
